ONE HIT WONDERS

El Rayo & Roberto Soto---This team was pushed hard during the first few weeks
of January 1976, and at that time they were the number one contenders for the
NWA World Tag Team Titles. Promoted as being "high flyers," Soto and El Rayo
were defeating the World Tag Team Champion Anderson Brothers in non-title
matches during this time frame. In late January 1976, in a surprising booking
decision, Rufus R. Jones and Wahoo McDaniel came out of nowhere to win the
World Tag Titles from Gene and Ole Anderson. This effectively killed the
momentum of the Soto/El Rayo team, and after the Andersons won the World
belts back in early February, Gene and Ole made quick work of Soto and El
Rayo, dispatching them to mid card status. By the end of March, the tag team
known as El Rayo & Roberto Soto had ceased to exist.
