Jack Brisco defended the title against Ole Anderson on September 9, 1973 in Greensboro. It was one of only two title defenses that year in Greensboro, the other being Brisco defending against Dory Funk Jr. on the Thanksgiving night  show just over two months later.

This article, from the Nov. 1990 issue of Inside Wrestling magazine, tells of Ole taking Brisco to a time limit draw in the third fall of the bout. The newspaper report, however, tells a different story, reporting Brisco only needing 22 minutes to defeat Anderson with a figure-four leglock.
